Autohorn Car Rental - York

Autohorn was a very good experience renting in York. The car was as promised and even better, in very clean condition. The customer service from Georgina was great. I left a pair of sunglasses in the car in my rush to the train station, and she was very helpful in getting them shipped back to me.

Staffs are kind and very helpful. The car is clean, in excellent condition, and the process of retrieving it is fast. Thanks for making a great weekend that we can explore the cities around.

Only to note that the rental office (counter) is located right next to the luggage storage room. It took us a bit of time to find.

Waited over an hour and a half for the car as it had not been brought down from the other depot at Clifton Moor (20 mins away) to the train station depot despite it being pre-booked a month ago for collection from the train station. We were offered a much smaller alternative (impossible with 5 passengers and suitcases) or another car that was not clean (also too small). A Toyota Aygo was not a similar class or size to the Volvo XC60 (or equivalent) we had booked and was not going to fit 3 adults, 2 children and 3 suitcases so we insisted on the car we had booked and paid for (as the only one that would fit our luggage and passengers) we were told to come back in an hour. We offered to taxi to the other depot to collect the car as, despite the inconvenience, it would be quicker overall, but that depot was shut. It was at this point that the adviser explained she would have to go and get it however as she had her young child with her, she would need to arrange childcare for her to be able to do that. We then waited 40 minutes whilst she sorted out childcare and another 40 minutes for the car to be brought down from the other depot. Whilst we did eventually get the car, it caused us a delay to our onward travels and plans meeting family over Xmas. Not the best start to festivities, particularly travelling with two small children and a grandparent. Whilst I understand these things happen/xmas childcare can be tricky, it was incredibly unprofessional. Clearly thought/hoped they would get away with offering us a smaller car rather than being organised and ensuring a pre-booked car was in the correct place for collection. Would have been far quicker to taxi to one of the national providers such as Enterpise etc to ensure reliability - would not use/recommend for car hire.

I made a reservation through an email. When I got to the car rental place it appeared there was a mix-up.. I spoke to a gentleman who was very kind and offered to solve it. Someone came to where I was and completed the rental at the original price. This car rental company goes beyond what I expected. The high rating on Google is merited. This is the second time I've used Google ratings to pick a non corporate rental company and both were top notch.

Really helpful and polite staff. The signing up process took only 10 minutes and no hard sell for upgrades. Car was clean and tidy and ideal for our needs. Their base is a bit out of town at the moment but easy enough to find and only a few minutes by taxi. Highly recommended.

Chris at Autohorn was very friendly and helpful! We needed to leave our luggage for a few hours while we waited for our train and he helped us store our luggage. It was very quick and easy! We were sad to leave your beautiful town of York! We loved it here.
